How to Naturally Beat Jet Lag

How to Naturally Beat Jet Lag

2 minute read

With all the back and forth that the majority of the population has done over the last couple months, it's easy to fall behind on your sleep schedule and become a victim to the dreaded jet lag. We'll go over some tips and tricks to recover from jet lag and prevent a major disruption in your circadian rhythm.

Stay Hydrated

Travel fatigue is largely attributed to the dry recycled air and reduced water consumption during air travel. Make a point of prioritizing hydration to help you body adjust to the new environment and schedule.

Melatonin

If you're having difficulty adjusting to your new sleep schedule, natural aids like melatonin can help relax your body and prepare for winding down when you may still feel wide awake. Melatonin is naturally produced in the body when you start getting sleepy, so this supplement would trigger the same bodily response.

Use Caffeine (wisely!)

Caffeine gets a bad rap but if used correctly, it could extend your time awake so you have a restful sleep and adjust to your new time schedule faster. Try to stick to 300 miligrams or less to avoid disrupting your sleep when you arrive.

Be Mindful of Light

Exposure to light helps suppress the body's production of melatonin. You can manipulate this by keeping lights on or going outside if its day to stay awake for a period of time while you adjust to your new time zone.

Recover

At the end of the day, the most important thing is to take the time to recover- the previous tips being supplemental aids to contribute to a speedier adaptation to your new environment! If you're someone with any kind of joint pain, chronic especially, these tips are especially important since travel can increase inflammation. If you struggle with muscle soreness or pain, we highly recommend the VPod.

This new wellness tech device uses pulses to induce the body's natural pain relieving hormones, as well as speed up muscle recovery. This device is also ideal for jet lag because it increases blood flow, which helps reduce some of the inflammation that tends to take place during travel.
