5 Ways to Stay Fit During the Holidays

3 minute read

Staying fit over the holidays is all about preparing and planning ahead. Today we'll cover some tips to help you stay ahead of the game this season and maintain all the progress you made throughout the year, without having to do any crazy workouts or extreme diets that will take focus away from this special time of the year.

holiday fit tips

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

With all the holiday activities, extra sodium and increased alcohol intake, it's important to still prioritize your water intake. Not only will this prevent you from overeating, but it'll help you feel overall more energized and lighter than most people tend to feel after a large holiday meal.

2. Some activity is better than none

Take advantage of seasonal activities. Go for a family walk after your meals. All of these, although seemingly small, can make a big difference in digestion and blood flow. Even just scheduling 10 minutes of high intensity activity in the morning can be a great way to squeeze in an effective and quick workout and help you stay fit.

3. Small choices add up

Choose to have half of the higher calorie dishes, but still allow yourself to enjoy them! There's no need for extremes or all-or-nothing approaches during the holidays. If you'd like some of your family's famous cherry pie, have it! But maybe stick to a small slice rather than 3 or 4, as is the tendency during the holidays. These small but impactful changes will keep you fit so you can avoid some of same New Year's resolutions as last year!

4. Prioritize protein and veggies

This is a no brainer. By filling up on more whole foods, protein and raw or roasted vegetables, you'll have less interest, not to mention less room, for some of the less healthier options. Head over to the turkey, roasted sweet potatoes, green beans, or carrots before anything else and see how you feel by the end of the day when following this fit tip!

5. Take time to recover

With all the additional activity and stress, make sure you take the time to recovery. Whether you suffer from any kind of chronic pain, or have been pushing yourself really hard during your workouts and are now struggling with extreme muscle soreness- it's important to take time to prioritize recovery over your fit journey. We often recommend the VPod as a way to speed up recovery. This new wireless device has 24 different functions, several intensities, and an adjustable timer so you can fully customize your session. The precise pulses sent out by the VPod both work to flush out lactic acid (the chemical responsible for muscle soreness) and naturally block pain by encouraging the production of endorphins (which naturally block pain). If you struggle with having enough time for recovery or are simply still looking for health tech gifts, visit VPod.Life for more info.
